In September of 1981, Zespol Sloneczniki, originated
under the direction of Chris (Rajtar) Golob. The group was initially
sponsored by Bottineau Park of Northeast Minneapolis.
The groups name was selected because the translation for sloneczniki is
sunflowers. The children are enriched with Polish culture, customs and
traditions through song and dance, as the sunflower follows the direction of
the sun.
The children perform for local Church Festivals and Twin Cities events. The
culmination of their September through May session is focused towards the
annual Festival of Nations in St. Paul.
Children's ages consist of 5 years old to 14 years old and they are taught
regional dances and songs of Poland.
The group is under the direction of Kaja Rajtar.
Rehearsal is held every Saturday at at Pope John Paul II school in Kolbe Hall – 12:30 - 2:30pm 1630 4th St NE – enter thru alley.
